Nat King Cole – Autumn Leaves Lyrics

The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sun-burned hands I used to hold

Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter's song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

"Gee Whiz It's You" was pressed as an export single intended for continental Europe, but high demand in the UK meant it charted in March 1961 and eventually reached #4 in the UK singles chart. (Wikipedia)

The Equals were a group from North London, England. "Baby, Come Back" is a mixture of rock and roll and beat, very much reflecting the London sound of the 1960s. The song was first released in 1966, a year after the band formed, but did not chart. However after impressive sales in the rest of Europe (it reached the top 10 in Belgium and The Netherlands[1]) the song was re-issued in the UK on 1 May 1968 and reached #1 in the UK Singles Chart on 6 July 1968 spending three weeks there.[2] In all the song stayed in the UK Top 75 for 18 weeks.[2]
I remember the night of december 1967 when the DJ at "les enfants" has played it for the first time. I bought the record the day after.

Thank you, Paul, for the good memories from 1966. I was quite often in the studios then when 'Ready Steady Go' was sent, thanks to a friend of mine, Tony, who was a photographer.

You're welcome, Vibeke. As Adrian may have told you, I was in London in 1966 and '67. By far, the best time of my life !

Hi Adrian.
Funny about the video from 'Ready Steady Go', - I was in the studio that day, and I just found a small glimpse of myself in the video of 'Under my Thumb'! A friend of mine, Tony, was a photograper, and I often went with him to the Reday Steady Go-shows on my day-off from the shop in Carnaby St.

Had to check up in Wiki:
His first real success was "A chi" in 1967 (an Italian version of an 1954 American song "Hurt", written by Roy Hamilton, which was also issued years later by Francesco De Gregori). "A chi" sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc.

I had to add this song and comment as 1) I'd never heard of it and 2) reading the Kilt-Soir (coming soon to this site) from April 1968 it was listed as number 2 in the club's top ten AND was purported to be by Tommy BRUCE and Bobby NEAL.
Martin may be gone but his humour lives on..

This is not a Marvin Gaye cover, but the first version released in 1967. Gaye's slower version came out in 1968.

The lip-synched video was made in the late eighties, but the sound is from the original recording.

I saw him perform this at the Kennedy Centre in Washington DC in 1982 .The entire audience mainly from the embassy and assorted restaurants
joined in as though this song was his personal anthem .
He seemed to have a great time entertaining . A real troubadour in the French tradition.

Vangelis, who was a good friend of mine then, was a "regular" at Le Kilt for quite a while, before he left for Paris to make film-music. Also Lucas, the drummer . But I don't remember Demis ( R.I.P.) from Le Kilt. I was lucky to hear Aphrodite's Child somewhere near Cannes, when I was on Holiday there sometime in 1968.
